EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

This
year the IOWA APPALOOSA ASSOCIATION will award one youth educational
scholarship of up to $500
An alternate will also be designated and
will receive a scholarship should a winner not use his/her award in the
period stipulated.

Each applicant must provide 3 letters of
recommendation along with their application, and an official high
school or college transcript. Copies of official ACT, SAT or
similar exam results must be attached.

Each application is carefully reviewed by the
Scholarship Committee of the IOWA APPALOOSA ASSOCIATION.
Applications are evaluated based upon the following criteria; 30%
based upon involvement in the Appaloosa industry, 50% based upon
grade point average (improvement in GPA will be looked at
carefully), 10% based upon the essay each applicant must submit with
their application, 5% based upon extra curricular equine
activities, and 5% based upon extra curricular school and community
activities.

Scholarships are awarded annually, preceding
the school year for which they must be used. The check from the
scholarship fund will be payable only to the institution the
recipient is attending. It is non-transferable from the person
receiving the award, and must be used within one year from the date
of the award. If not used, it will be awarded to either the first
or second alternate.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The application must be made on an official application form and
must be filled out and signed by the person applying for the
scholarship.

An official grade transcript from the applicant’s most recent
high school or
college must accompany the application.
3. A
picture of the nominee must be attached to the application. Additional
information may also be attached. The picture
and application form become
the property of the youth scholarship committee
and cannot be returned.

Scholarship selection is based upon scholastic aptitude,
involvement in the
Appaloosa industry, leadership potential,
sportsmanship, community and civic
responsibility, and general knowledge and
accomplishments in horsemanship.
5. In
order to apply for this scholarship, the applicant must hold a high
school
diploma or equivalent certification, or be anticipating high
school graduation
this year. GPA must be at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or a
3.8 on a 6.0 scale.
6.
Three (3) letters of personal recommendation regarding the
applicant’s moral
character and scholastic ability must be attached to
the application.
7. It
is to each applicant’s advantage to submit a very complete, neat and
informative application because of the competition and
degree of acquired
skills of the applicants.
8.
A copy of your official ACT, SAT or similar exam results must be
attached.
This
application must be completed and be received by July 15 in order to be
considered by the scholarship selection committee.
